Opportunities
Greylock Techfair
Techfair is not an ordinary career fair. Rather, it’s your opportunity to connect with engineers, product leaders, and designers at the fastest-growing startups in Silicon Valley. Students have the opportunity to ask questions directly to potential teammates and learn about what makes each company unique. Techfair helps you create career connections, regardless of whether you’re looking for internships or full-time opportunities. Started seven years ago, this annual event has enabled hundreds of students and recent graduates to launch their careers in tech. Previous participating companies have gone on to successful exits and IPOs and each year we update our company list to include the best new companies.
Techfair will be a virtual event taking place on Thursday, July 16, 2020.
Mozilla’s Fix-The-Internet Incubator
We're looking to invest in people, projects, and technologies that shape the internet and have a positive impact without having to only worry about the bottom line. Firefox, Wikipedia, Wordpress, DuckDuckGo, Kickstarter, GitHub, Node.js, and Ethereum are some of our favorite examples of the internet at its best. We’ve done it before. We're going to build 1000 more.
D.E. Shaw 3-day Fellowship
Over the course of three days, fellows participate in a set of unique educational opportunities designed to bring together talented and intellectually curious students and provide them with exposure to what we do at the firm through interactive case studies, seminars led by visiting professors, and sessions with the firm’s own analysts. We usually host fellows at our New York City headquarters—we’re currently doing virtual fellowships. Fellows receive a $1,500 stipend (our in-person fellowships also cover travel and accommodations, and include excursions to explore the city we call home). Fellows will also spend time with senior leaders of the firm, discuss career paths in finance with recent hires and long-tenured employees, and develop relationships with students from schools around the country. Applications are due June 28th.
Yale WiCS Pandemic Resource Guide
Our team recently put together a collection of resources and materials to help you out in time of Covid-19. We’ve included everything from CS learning tools, podcasts, mentorship resources, to game and baking suggestions! Check it out and feel free to add your own.
Recommended Readings
As both students and members of the global community, we are always trying to stay educated and aware of the issues facing the world today. Particularly in tech, racism is a topic our field has struggled to address. This past month, our members have been sharing resources to support anti-racism—we hope you’ll join us in educating ourselves on how we can help to change our present.
