Virtual Internship Check-in #3

Can you believe it has been a month since our previous remote internship check-in?! Join Yale WiCS on Saturday, July 25th at 5pm EST for our third community chat as we discuss the ups and downs of virtual work. Preparing for CS Recruitment Season

CS recruitment season is already getting started. While you still have time over the summer, pop in and learn about how you should best be preparing for recruitment especially in a virtual landscape. Learn the ins and outs of Yale Computer Science! Ask any and all questions from “What computer should I get?” to “How do I connect with professors virtually?” Whether you are an incoming first year seeking advice, a current student with experiences to share, or someone new to Yale Computer Science looking to see how to get started, join this call and ask away! Bluebooking w/ Yale Womxn in Computer Science
When: August 15 @ 8pm EDT
Come Bluebook (decide which classes to take) with members of Yale WiCS! Talk about what CS class you should start with, when to take each course in the intro sequence, which professors have the heaviest workload, and more! Any and all class-selection related questions can be answered here! Everyone is welcome, whether you are brand new to Computer Science at Yale or you have been around for a few years. Zoom link here

WiCS is starting a new initiative to create a database of current and former members! We want everyone to be able to stay connected to this community not only throughout your college years, but also well beyond.

Mozilla’s Fix-The-Internet Incubator
We're looking to invest in people, projects, and technologies that shape the internet and have a positive impact without having to only worry about the bottom line. Firefox, Wikipedia, Wordpress, DuckDuckGo, Kickstarter, GitHub, Node.js, and Ethereum are some of our favorite examples of the internet at its best. We’ve done it before. We're going to build 1000 more.
HackMIT 2020: Building the tracks for a more connected future!
Some deets:
HackMIT is MIT’s annual and largest undergraduate hackathon that brings together passionate students from around the world for a weekend of hands-on learning and technological innovation.
You’ll have the chance to:
Meet diverse hackers from all over the world
Create cool projects with your friends
Expand your skill set by learning new technologies
Interact with sponsors and hear their stories
Receive mentorship from industry professionals
Compete for awesome prizes
Chill with fun, virtual mini-events
Connect with hackers on Playground, a Club-Penguin-style virtual world

Registration is now open at hackmit.org! Join other passionate hackers, find your inspiration, and pursue your ideas from September 18-20! Apply by July 24th to hear back about 2 weeks later! Registration closes on August 7th, 2020.

Women Ignite
Started by Yale and Stanford CS students, Women Ignite is a 9-week residential alternative to online-learning that establishes a powerful professional network of the most on-fire college-aged women in tech across the country. The participants of Women Ignite plan to invest in one another for the foreseeable future—professionally, financially, and emotionally—as we become the next generation of tech industry leaders.
